PRAGYA SANDESH – 21st Century, Bright Future
(A weekly periodical by All World Gayatri Pariwar Youth Group, Bangalore Branch)
www.awgp.org
Objective of the Periodical: The root causes of the ailing state of the world today are – the crisis of faith, people’s ignorance of the powers of the inner self, and the lack of righteous attitude. These have evaporated the oceans of joy from people’s life and polluted them with ever increasing insecurities, infirmities and complexities. Realizing the hidden power of thoughts is very important in the present era of intellectual evolution. This periodical will serve as a vehicle for thought transformation for the revival of Satyug - the divine era.

Marmik Kathayen (Stories that touch our hearts):

                             Selflessness Can Cure!

This is a true incident of the year 1981. In England a woman named Patrick Mary was found to be suffering from chest cancer. By the time doctors detected her cancer it had developed into an advanced stage. They told her that now all the treatment would be only for namesake, she had maximum six more months to live. She got worried and asked the doctors why she could not be treated now. The doctors replied, "If we could have diagnosed your cancer a few months earlier, there would have been some possibility of treating you. Now it is too late."

And why could her cancer not be diagnosed early enough? The reason was simple --- In England at that time there was just one CAT-scan machine. To get an appointment for scanning, patients had to wait for months for their turn. Patrick Mary's cancer had reached an advanced stage while waiting for her turn.

Now she began to think. She had only six more months, why not make the best use of it. After thinking for a long time, she concluded that she did not have resources to get many CAT-scan machines installed in the country, but definitely, if she put in all her efforts she might be able to get at least one more machine installed. That would save lives of at least half of the patients. But getting even one machine commissioned was a daunting task, each machine cost over 30 million rupees.

She charted out a plan quickly. She used television to broadcast her message. She explained how she came to this terrible state and if 30 million rupees could be collected another machine could be commissioned which would save the lives of half of the patients like her. Her message touched the hearts of several benevolent people who began to pour in their monetary help. She got encouraged and began to devote all her time and effort into her mission. She got all the clearances and systems in place to get the machine commissioned in the specific time period. The commissioning work got started. Meanwhile she got so physically and mentally occupied that she forgot to worry about her disease and its treatment.

The machine got commissioned as per her plan. Now when her friends reminded her, she went to the doctors to find out how many more days she had left. Doctors examined her whole body and to their utter surprise they did not find any trace of cancer left in her body! She was found to be in a perfect and sound health.

An expert committee was set up to examine her case. After a long study the committee concluded that if a person forgets about his death, old age or ailment and devotes his entire mental strength towards higher-level selfless deeds then he can awaken a strength that can re-establish good health. Example of Patrick Mary proved that mental strength, when awakened, is infinitely more powerful than any medicine or doctor's skill.

Upakhyan (Anecdote):

Vinayak, the monk had turned into a wordy preacher. He would gather huge crowds in a central place and deliver impressive discourses on religion.

When Lord Buddha heard the news, he called for Vinayak and compassionately asked him, "Dear monk, suppose a cowherd stands on a roadside and keeps counting the cows that walk by, does he become their owner?"

Vinayak replied, "No Lord, how is that possible? The cowherd who owns  cows has to devote himself to their upkeep and service."

Buddha turned serious and said, "Dear child, religion is always expressed not by tongue but by living a righteous life. Earn everyone's affection by devoted service of the society. If good deeds are not restricted to teachings alone, but actually brought into practice, only then does life attain perfection and completeness in a true sense."

SADVICHAR (Thought of the week):

To deceive others is to deceive oneself. The inner self recognizes this downfall and constantly rebukes us.
