PRAGYA SANDESH – 21st Century, Bright Future
(A weekly periodical by All World Gayatri Pariwar Youth Group, Bangalore Branch)
www.awgp.org
Objective of the Periodical: The root causes of the ailing state of the world today are – the crisis of faith, people’s ignorance of the powers of the inner self, and the lack of righteous attitude. These have evaporated the oceans of joy from people’s life and polluted them with ever increasing insecurities, infirmities and complexities. Realizing the hidden power of thoughts is very important in the present era of intellectual evolution. This periodical will serve as a vehicle for thought transformation for the revival of Satyug - the divine era.

Marmik Katha (Story that touches our hearts):

                                              Mother’s Ornaments

People often say that favorable circumstances make a man. But spiritualists say that truth is exactly opposite; it is the mental makeup and faith of a man that creates favourable circumstances. Please read this story of a very great person and decide for yourself.

In the fag end of the nineteenth century in Bengal lived an old person named Thakurdas. He was very poor and had a family consisting of wife and a son. He used to wander about the lanes of Kolkata, doing menial jobs to make ends meet. His family suffered due to poverty, but they had a strong faith in God. They believed in God’s mercy and waited for the day of their good fortune very patiently.

As luck would have it, the family landed in a village of Medinapur district. Thakurdas got a service there for Rs. two per month. Several years passed in this village and in hope for a better future. The son had grown up in a life of dire misery.

One night the son fondly asked his mother, "Mother! I wish to study a lot and become a scholar, and then I want to serve you best."

"How would you serve me?" asked the mother to encourage him as the son had begun reading.

"Mother! You have spent days in hardship. I shall provide good meals to eat, good clothes to put on. And yes," the son remembered something more, "I shall get ornaments for you."

"Yes, son! You shall definitely serve me,’ said the mother, "do bring me the ornaments, only they should be of my choice."

"Which ornaments do you want, Mother?"

"I long for three ornaments", said the mother and gave details, "First, this village has no good school, open a school here. Second, there is no proper hospital here, open a hospital. Third, make arrangements for stay, food and education for poor and orphan children."

The son overwhelmed with emotion bowed his head to her feet and since then started working hard with devotion to materialize those ‘three ornaments’ for his mother. After getting educated he became a scholar and worked on several important posts where he earned good salary. But he always remembered the ‘three ornaments’ for his mother and started opening schools, hospitals and child welfare centres. Not only this, he also dedicated to his mother the ‘ornaments’ of women education and widow-marriage.

This great superman who built such extraordinary ‘ornaments’ throughout his life was Pt. Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar.

Upakhyan (Anecdote):

When a beggar spread out his hands for alms, Ashwapati realized that he has nothing in his pockets to give. He sadly went into his house, picked up a utensil and gave it off to the beggar.

Ashwapati’s wife came after some time and finding that a utensil is missing shouted, “Hey! You have given off a silver glass to the beggar. Run! Run! Go and fetch the glass back.”

Ashwapati ran behind the beggar, stopped him and said, “Brother! My wife just told me that this glass is made of silver. Do not sell it off cheaply.”

Later his neighbour asked him, “Ashwapati, when you knew that it was a silver glass, why did you let him take it away?” Ashwapati smilingly replied, “Just to train my mind not to get upset or dejected in the event of much bigger losses.”

SADVICHAR (Thought of the week):

There are two ways to be happy, minimize your needs and live in harmony with the circumstances
