PRAGYA SANDESH – 21st Century, Bright Future
(A weekly periodical by All World Gayatri Pariwar Youth Group, Bangalore Branch)
www.awgp.org
Objective of the Periodical: The root causes of the ailing state of the world today are – the crisis of faith, people’s ignorance of the powers of the inner self, and the lack of righteous attitude. These have evaporated the oceans of joy from people’s life and polluted them with ever increasing insecurities, infirmities and complexities. Realizing the hidden power of thoughts is very important in the present era of intellectual evolution. This periodical will serve as a vehicle for thought transformation for the revival of Satyug - the divine era.

Marmik Katha (Story that touches our hearts):

                                   A King's Humility

Once in the regime of Maharaj Ashoka there was a  terrible famine. People suffered from hunger and thirst everywhere. The king at once ordered to open the stores of grains. People poured in to receive the food grains from morning to evening endlessly. One day it was quite late in the evening. All others had gone, distribution stopped, and distributors were tired.

Just then an old feeble person came and asked for grains. He was scolded, ‘Come tomorrow, today free distribution is closed.’ A hale and hearty young man came to the scene and said to the distributors, ‘Poor old man he is. I have seen him sitting here for a long time. Being physically weak he lagged behind all. Give him grains.’ His words had such an effect that the distributors gave him grains. With the help of that young man he tied his bundle.

Now the old man began to wonder who would carry all this weight to his house. The youth spoke again, ‘Come on, don't worry, I shall carry it for you.’ Lifting up the bundle he followed the old man. When they were close to the old man's house, a military infantry passed that way. The Nayak or officer of the infantry alighted from the horse and gave a military salute to the person carrying the load. The youth hinted to him not to speak anything further.

However, the old man was overcome with doubt. He stopped and asked the youth, "Tell me frankly, who are you?" The youth spoke, ‘I am a young man, and you are old and feeble, that is all. No need for further introduction. Come on, tell me, where is your house?" By now the old man had recognized that young man. He fell down at his feet, tears rolling down the cheeks. He begged his forgiveness and said with great difficulty, ‘O king! You are the saviour of the subjects in the true sense of the term.’ That young man was none other than Emperor Ashoka himself.

Upakhyan (Anecdote):

Chanakya was Prime Minister of the State. Throughout the day he would be busy in administrative affairs and listening to people's grievances. He used to keep two lamps. One would be lighted when he would work for the state. The oil for this lamp would be purchased at the expense of state treasury. But when he would worship, the first would be put out and the second one lighted. The oil for the second one would be bought from his personal earning. Whn asked, Chanakya would say, "Worship is meant for personal benefit, why should I use others' money for that?”
