Upakhyan (Anecdote)
Creative Thinking
Kulanand Brahmachari was a disciple of Bengal's renowned saint Vijay Krishna Goswami. He would remain very perturbed in the initial stages of his Sadhana by the persistence of destructive thoughts in his mind. The more he tried to get rid of them, the more they would surround and haunt him like ghosts. In deep despair, he even entertained the idea of suicide, but then it occurred to him to seek the Guru's help. He went to Goswamiji and sobbed out his agony to him: "Gurudev, resolved I indeed was for sadhana, but my mental plight is proving worse than that of animals. Base thoughts of sensous pleasures, envy, jealousy, ego, etc. have infested my mind and refuse to go away. The situation has now become intolerable. Death is preferable to such a life. So I think I better die now." Vijay Krishna Goswami caressed Kulanand's head and comforted him: "This is inverse thinking son! It is your mind which is the culprit. Rather than reform it, you intend to punish your body. If you have to reform, reform your mind; if you have to punish, punish your mind". "But how?" Kulanand wanted to know. In reply, his Gurudev instructed him in the technique of creative thinking. He said: "It is imperative that you stop regarding yourself weak and helpless. You have to believe that you are a spark of the Effulgent Divine. His cosmic consciousness is flowing inside you. As this perception becomes strong, you will feel a surge of inner strength and be able to rein in the negative flight of your thoughts. This is the first step in the direction of creative thinking."
Time affirmed foretells of Yug Rishi
An event that raised global concern and curiosity was the fall of the sky-lab in July 1979. Two days before an American spacecraft failed in elevating this
first of its kind space-lab to safer altitude and it became apparent that the giant structure or its debris would fall randomly
on the earth, Gurudev had asked all the disciples present in Shantikunj, Haridwar to collectively initiate a Gayatri Anusthan jointly with him to generate a flow of sublime power-current in Nature necessary to counter an unprecedented threat likely from the space. People over there thought it might be some meteor collision
, supernova explosion or some astrologically negative signal. But soon the reason was obvious to everyone when the newspapers
and radio broadcasts broke the news. The major fear was the alarming danger of devastation that was almost sure to be caused by the debris of the huge structure (91 metric ton weight, orbital mass over 77000 kg and 282 cubic meter habitable volume) that was now falling towards the earth.
Gurudev disclosed that the experiment of collective anushthan was much more than mass prayers to minimize the loss due to the crash. He explained that no one could deny the Laws of Nature and hence the gravitational force. Given that the sky-lab has begun falling down, the best thing we can aim for is to divert its trajectory to minimize the effects of likely disaster and mitigate the tragedy. For example, instead of destroying habitation or jungles on the earth, it may be plunged in an ocean, he explained.
The supreme force generated by the simultaneous japa of Gayatri Mantra by dedicated sadhaks is so intense that if focused, it can even propel a spacecraft. Those who have experienced the rare energy vibrations and extrasensory currents in the Himalayan region or in the vicinity of great yogis may understand the point better than those who consider the material based science as ultimate reality. Well, irrespective of the arguments for and against such possibilities, what is remarkable without any scope for debate here is that more than twelve hours before the giant space lab entered the earth's atmosphere, Gurudev confidently declared that now the purpose of the
anushthan is accomplished, the fall will be safe plunging in the Indian Ocean. The validity of his foretell is what the world witnessed - without any control of NASA, Russian Space Agency (RSA) or any other observatory or space research centre, the skylab (debris) got submerged in the south of Indian Ocean!
Question And Answer
"What is the relevance of Gayatri Upasana in
the modern society?

During the last few decades concepts of religion
have been increasingly distorted by vested interests.
The deliberately induced misconceptions about religion
led to the miraculous achievements in the field of material
sciences, created an environment wherein people
began to doubt the utility of spirituality and became
sceptic about the very existence of God. Many of the
neo-literates began to regard religion as superstition to
the extent that being an atheist became a symbol of
intellectualism.
Now, on the peak of its achievements, science has failed
to achieve the wellbeing of the society as a whole, and
people have begun to revise their attitude about spirituality.
It is being realised that for restoring ethical and
the moral values, spirituality is as important as the material
aspects of life. Gayatri mantra is a universal prayer where we ask the almighty (in whatever form we may worship) to show & lead us towards righteous path. Gayatri Sadhana is within the
reach of common man, Its methodology is easy to adopt,
it is well defined and is easily understood. With the
help of Gayatri Sadhana, therefore, one can make remarkable
progress in imbibing basic ethical and moral
values with minimal effort. |
